* Thursday, July 19, 2007 * it's 550am now, and i've got to be ready by 9am to catch a flight to San Francisco... the whole world is sleeping now, but i've got something really impt to blog abt... HAPPY 2ND YEAR ANNIVERSARY DARLING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's prob late by abt 5 hrs, coz it's supposed to be on 18th july... you've become so much a part of me, it's starting to get increasingly impossible to imagine life without you... i love the carefree-ness and maturity in our relationship... i love the understanding and trust we have between us... and most imptly, i love the way everything you do and say just complements me so perfectly... "Do you know what it's like to love someone so much, that you can't see yourself without picturing him? Or what it's like to touch someone, and feel like you've come home? Some people spent their whole lives looking for that one person... I was lucky enough to have him all along..." - Jodi Picoult "The Pact" I love you... * Wednesday, July 18, 2007 * 24th Jun 07 to 27th Jun 07 - North Carolina, Wilmington I was kinda apprehensive abt this trip initially coz it was hard to know wat to expect from a small and unknown town like Wilmington... when the greyhound bus first skirted thru Wilmington, it juz felt exactly like Richmond, nothing special and nothing new... but u noe wat, it turned out to be the best 4 days i ever have since i came to USA, and yes it beats New York City HANDS DOWN. our true-blue american tour guide is Jessie, a fren of Lester's. he met her in NUS KR coz she was in spore for SEP... for the full 4 days, she brought us around Wilmington on wheels, and planned the whole itinery for us... For this 4 days, I lived my American dream, the kinda lifestyle i've always read abt in books when i was young... and her house... it made us speechless the first time we saw it, coz it was much better den we ever imagined... the exact kind of American house i always fantasized abt... haha... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() house no :: the pathway leading up to her house me and les at the doorway and the interior of her house is more den amazing... ![]() ![]() the patio ![]() the garage ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() living room ![]() ![]() ![]() the kitchen ![]() ![]() guest-sitting room dining room me and ching's bedroom with the connecting toilet les and chang's bedroom (i dun really haf to say much abt the cosiness here eh?!) les with jessie's dad's boxing gloves and we were really amazed by the fact that their house has an attic and a basement, juz like in the books! wahahha... i think they were really amused that we're so excited upon being able to see their attic and basement... it's like ppl fr foreign countries coming to spore and taking photos in our storerooms... hahahha... but it's so cool, the way they pull this little latch in the ceiling and a ladder will fall out, leading to the attic... the guys in wonderment leading up to the attic in the attic with Jessie and Betthany (her sis) beware the attic creep and the basement which is more of her dad's workshop our first day there, we reach around evening time and was greeted by an all-american home-cooked meal by Jessie... her hospitality is so wonderful, u juz wanna stay there for a long loooong loooooooooooong time... the 4 happy singaporeans lasagna :: salad and for the next 4 days, our breakfast was always supa appetizing... somehow it feels different eating american breakfast in an american house haha... and those are brownies and scones made by Jessie's mom... they were supa delicious can, made me wonder how come i nvr realise that i love scones so much... hee... with their family dog, Pete the dog is so tame, prob coz it's old and deaf... but it's really nice except it's prob one of the laziest dogs i've ever seen haha... these were taken on the very last day when we were abt to head back to Richmond... the sketch book that Chang created for Jessie and our 'oriental' gift to them for putting us up and putting up wif us haha union of the sporeans and americans . . . anyway on our very first evening there, Jessie brought us to the best beach there, Wilmington Beach... her itinery was to bring bread there to feed the seagulls which i found kinda weird initially... but oh manz, it was like HOW FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! road to the beach the beautiful beautiful beach at sunset this is how a beach should look like... serene and peaceful... juz beautiful, with no screaming kids running around, no shops being constructed on the sand, no volleyball courts etc... nothing ever to commercialize the place... photowhoring and den the seagulls appear! that's us feeding the seagulls on the lifeguard stand then, night falls and i didnt wanna leave... and this photo is really nice... =) don't we juz look like a lesbian couple, ostracized by society, succumbed to peer pressure, unable to live up to expectations, and preparing to commit suicide tgt? hahahha... totally. headed to this really good ice-cream place that Jessie used to work at... that would be key lime pie ice-cream, one of the best there . . . second day, we headed down to Wilmington beach again but this time it was for the sun, sand and sea, not for the seagulls haha... ching :: me isnt he cute?!?!?!?!? and the usual jumpshots, we always have to take at the beach... they juz love to do this, what can i say? haha... and the girls and these waves are perfect for boogie-boarding... this will be the atlantic ocean for you! (i'm not kidding!) it's hard to take such photos in spore coz ppl will juz stare at u and think u're stoopid, but here, u'll juz look cool... wahhahaha... us with our boogie boards this is one activity i'll seriously miss alot when i go back to spore... it's so fun i didnt wanna stop, if not for the fact that the waves were becoming smaller and smaller, almost impossible to ride on... we went ahead to this yacht club to chill out and chat, coz Jessie's neighbour was a member of the club... us with the sand fiddlers they're so squirmy they'll tickle ur palm!!! we went around the shore for near an hr tryin to catch them on our palms haha... the yacht club! and den we went to the nearby jetty... they, the aspiring sailors... and on 2 of the nites, Jessie brought us to these 2 restaurants coz according to her, they were highly recommended... Lacosta and Flips Barbeque place... La Costa and the food, mouth-watering i'll say... our mexican food, which is by far the best mexican food i've eaten so far... Flips Barbeque place les with the 'mascot' of the shop yes, tat's their definition of barbecue... according to Jessie, when the americans say barbecue more often than not it meant shredded fried pork meat... but it actually tastes qt good... . . . on the third nite, we went Contra Dancing, which is like country folk dancing at this church nearby... it's supa fun, and dizzy too... coz it involves tons of spinning around... and the americans i danced with are so good at it, they forgot that spinning the girl too hard does make her dizzy... ![]() ![]() the tickets for contra dancing contra dancing with the americans tango! (okie, kinda outta point i noe haha) us with Jessie's Mexican friend it was some desserts aft tat at Port City Java... . . on the very last day, we went Downtown Wilmington, juz to look at how it is, and buy some souvenirs... the license plate of the car that brought us ard Wilmington, also known as Coast Guard City :: battleship along the riverside and some of the shops and sights we saw in downtown... and inside Cotton Exchange, which is really like a mini version of Bugis Street, except that it used to be a cotton factory... and we left a little something of ourselves behind... us with our vandalism went for some hotdogs at this highly recommended place, that were really tasty... coz they added so many things inside! and the best thing is, we brought them to the riverside to eat... that sort of sum up our 4 days in North Carolina... it was amazing, totally unforgettable... it's like being thrown into an american life, and getting to experience it first hand... on our last nite there, we talked for abt 2 hrs with Jessie and her family, and i tot that was really amazing... i love this place seriously... |
