* Tuesday, May 15, 2007 * 10th May 07 - 1st day on USA soil! 20 plus hrs of flight is no joke, all of us were more than overjoyed (i think, overjoyed is an understatement) when we finally reached Los Angeles. more so, when we reach Richmond, which is where we'll be settling down. LA airport is one of the worst, everyone's juz bustling around, there are like more than 5 terminals in that airport, and everyone's giving u wrong directions! no signboards in the airport, and it takes eons for us to find someone reliable to actually point us in the correct direction. in other words, C.H.A.O.T.I.C. times like that, you realise changi airport's still the best. =) woooohoooooo!!!!!!!!!!! And when we finally reached Richmond, me and lijing :: chang managing the hugeass luggages fooling around while waiting becoz there were like 30ppl from Work and Travel going the same hotel, we booked a bus for all of us tat was freaking cheap, at least cheaper than the cabs. It cost bloody US$40 each cab from the airport to the hotel. -_-''' so it was not a bad start for us, considering how we managed to save money on little things liddat. baggage for all 8 of us for the next 3 months the bus ride took abt an hr i think, can't really rem, coz it's like 5days later now, which explains my weird sentence structure and stuff. haha sorry, i noe i dun usually blog liddat, but i'm damn shagged now. we saw a few interesting sights along the way from the airport to our hotel, which got us really psyched up for the next 3 months. it's my first time in USA lehz!!!!! i've like tons to look forward to, we've tons to look forward to. and like what my supervisor put it, "we're all in for a treat" =) there's Walgreens, where we bought our first day groceries at, coz it's so freaking near our hotel. and to put aside all perceptions abt every single thing in USA being freaking ex and unaffordable, it's TOTALLY untrue! groceries are ok-priced. actually some of them are even cheaper than spore's, like their ham and cheese and most imptly, ben&jerry's!!!!!! and u'll see most of the salesgirls here (at least those i saw in walgreens) chewing on gum while serving you. and that row of traffic lights!!! we were kinda shocked when we saw those, it's amazing how ppl in USA can actually interpret those messy row of traffic lights. each traffic light actually corresponds to a lane, so all u've to do is look at the traffic light right in front of u, and not get distracted by the colour changes of those next to it haha. HOOTERS!!!!!! a place freaking near to our hotel, and according to the hotel receptionist, "something we've gotta try, esp the guys"... hahaha... after lijing turn 21, we can all go there and eat our fill... =) and our hotel!!!! Quality Inn! checking in was a chore. juz imagine 30 singaporeans with 30 hugeass luggages squeezed in that tiny lobby, all waving their passports at the receptionist. -_-'''' luckily all 8 of us were assigned rooms tgt, so we didnt get strangers as our roommates. me and my roommate! :: les slacking in our room and to curb my family's curiosity, this is our room for the next 2 weeks!!!! coz we'll be moving to VCU campus aft 21st may. the hotel room is the best, considering how much we pay. and there was once when we switched on tv and we saw porn on it. wahahahhaha. jus a short clip lar. they're damn open here lar... and the beds!!!! wahlau, these things i'll miss so much aft i moved. they're huge ok!!! i think at least queen-sized. settling in took awhile, aft which we juz walked ard the area and explore it alittle. ended up eating our dinner at this greek italian restaurant, which was the cheapest in the area. nice decor :: hugeass bread, nicest PLAIN bread i've ever tasted grilled chicken in white wine sauce with mushrooms :: some greek food haha les and the hugeass meatball :: pizza shared btw 2 ppl (i dunno how anyone's gonna finish tat) i guess it wun be surprising that we da-baoed most of all food back hahah.... we were like supa shocked to see the serving lar. i think while we were ordering, for a moment we sorta forgot we were in USA, and they no longer serve miniature servings. -_-''' with the menu supa yummmilicious meal cannnnn!!!!!!!!!!! not to mention, filling. all 8 of us - chiehui, chang, michael, les, me, lijing, yongfu, yew lee we went grocery shopping at walmart, for the next day's lunch. it's kinda fun to be preparing lunch tgt. hahah... anyway restaurants arent exactly cheap. we spent abt US$13 each for the dinner at the greek italian restaurant. haven earn money cannot anyhow spend ma. sometimes the guilt feeling juz eat at u, and it's kinda irritating haha... a yummy meal co-prepared by me and lijing haha and den!!!!!!!!!!! we rented a car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haaazzzz, life saviour for future road trips. since i'm now bloggin abt a past event, i can safely tell u, it's supa shiok to own a car and go for road trips tgt with 7 of ur good frens. supa shiok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! les being his usual self again =P :: OUR car (for 3 days) we've been in USA for 4 days and gone to 2 places alr! williamsburg and virginia beach!!!! update u guys tml! gotta wake up at bloody 730am to report for work. i need sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. |
