Chang brought us there coz he and his cousin tried it the day before and he was raving abt it so much we tot we juz have to try it for ourselves! the photo on the right is carved on the wall juz outside the Tartine bakery... i love the words, make u feel like entering and juz sitting there looking out for The One... haha... and the food! they all had really sophisticated names, which is why i couldnt remember any of them... but they were all good! one of the best bakery items i've had since we entered USA... we then went down to the downtown area to do some last minute shopping... and here are some photos i took on our way to downtown... buildings in SF :: wall murals downtown! Puma (those 2 ladies there are me and ching!!! haha) :: Apple Emporium Armani :: Levi's as u can see, the things they sell in downtown are not in shops, but in buildings! every single brand is housed in a hugeass building with superb SUPERB architecture! everytime before me and ching enter a shop (sorry, building) we would juz stand outside for a moment, taking in how huge tat building is before we enter and shop our asses off... haha... the guys went separate ways from us, coz we had diff agendas and diff shops to look at haha... and they went to this shop tat has a so-called "mongolian shoe bbq"! if i'm not wrong, i think there's a machine there that helps u custom made ur shoe... oh! and to end this whole San Francisco entry... me and ching were juz walking down one of the streets in downtown (downtown is as busy as orchard by the way) when juz across the streets we heard many continuous loud banging noises... the first tot tat came to our mind was, GUNSHOTS... so we ran into the nearest shop, which happened to be FCUK (how apt!) and we juz stood inside hiding and peering out like many other ppl who ran into the shop with us... at the same time, from the street where the noises came from, we saw huge groups of people running away from it... and den there was silence. and everyone started approaching the street where the noises came from, really slowly... as scared as we were, we really wanted to find out wat happened... i rem we were both holding each other's hands really tightly... it turned out tat there was a black car that zoomed past us, and when it reached tat street, someone from inside tat car fired many continuous shots... we managed to get close enough to the scene to take some photos... it was supa supaaaa scary!!! me and ching stayed at the same spot for damn long, becoz the police are there and we're qt sure it's safe to be standing there, before we managed enough courage to continue walking along the streets... when we first heard the gunshots... i was so so so scared for the guys... coz me and ching went separate ways from them and we're supposed to meet up again hours later for dinner.. but at tat time we have no idea where they were... luckily they were busy looking at luggages at tat time, to solve our iminent luggage prob haaz... . . . Aside from this shooting incident, San Francisco is probably the most beautiful and aesthetically pleasing city i've ever seen... it has the most cooling weather there, even in the summer... except for at nite! it's totally freezing, at least in my opinion coz i cant stand cold at all... But u'll be surprised at how many Hong Kong ppl there are in SF... there're so many of them living there, all the billboards and shops have english words WITH chinese translation... so it wasnt tat hard to look like u fit in over in SF... and at night, all the homeless ppl will come out, sit by the streets and ask for change... San Francs, besides Virginia, prob has the highest rate of homeless ppl we've seen so far in all the cities we visited... but other than all that, i think SF is a really nice place to live in... =) it has this lingering effect on u tat stays on even aft u've left the city... Las Vegas and Grand Canyon coming up!! * Wednesday, August 22, 2007 * 22nd July 07 - San Francisco Day 3 by the time it reached day 3, we were really awed by the beauty of this city... everywhere is aesthetically beautiful, you can juz stand and take in all the beauty around you... the day started off with Grace Cathedral. yes, another church! but this time for its architecture again, and its AIDS memorial inside... them, the jokers i really really love the exterior of this church... it looks so ancient and so modern all at the same time... added to that is this really mysterious feeling tat makes u wonder abt the ppl that has passed thru that giant oak door at the entrance... i tot the interior was as beautiful... as much as i'm not a christian, it doesnt take much for one to be able to appreciate the insides of an American church... i especially like the AIDS memorial chapel... they have this memorial book where u can choose to inscribe names and death dates of AIDS victims for a certain fee which goes to the AIDS association... next is Coit Tower, which is the tallest building in San Francisco, and truly looked over the whole city... to get there, we've to take this bus that goes round and round up a mountain... Coit Tower view of SF from the tower and this! is the most nonsensical thing i've ever seen since i stepped onto USA soil! and trust me, we've seen much weird things there hahah... it's a pillar up in Coit Tower filled with chewing gum... yes dirty disgusting chewing gum filled with god-knows-whose saliva... all stuck on the same pillar... and u noe wat's worse, ppl actually write on the chewing gum they stick there!!!!! like, if u look closely at the photo, u can see little scribblings on those lumps of things... u'll see things like "blah and blah forever together" or "blah was here!" or a signature with a date... all written on the chewing gums! for ur information, tat pillar totally totally SMELLS. we were soooooo amused! at the foot of Coit Tower we made our way to Lombard Street afterwards... snapshots of SF city this! is Lombard Street! which is the WORLD'S MOST CROOKED STREET! yepz! the positions of the cars in the photos marked out the crookedness of this street... it's amazing how they even tot abt constructing such a street... is it juz an error on the civil engineer's part? or an error on the construction worker's part? or did they do it on purpose juz to create another tourist attraction? haha... who knows... us, in front of Lombard Street who's tat cute guy in shades? heehee... you know you've reached Italian Town when you see these!!! Italian Town Another reason why SF is so interesting... they've got an Italian town, a Jap town, a Vietnam town, and of coz Chinatown!!! i think there's more tho... one of the shops we entered me and ching both bought one of those tins!!! it's supa nice!!! tho it totally created more luggage problems for us... haha... we bought each tin for S$15, when it's sold for S$40 in singapore, heeren... wahhahha... little things liddat really make me happy... haha... Italian pastries :: Italian fudge i love the Italian pastries!!! me and les bought one to share, and i immediately fell in love with it, it's so sweet it totally psyched u up, and yet not so sweet tat ur face will scrunch up once u bite into it... nice! the Italian fudge is from this shop there that claims to be the world's sweetest shop... they have all kinds of chocolates and sweets inside... but the fudge is the best!!!! and they give us free samples! Italian town is peppered with more Italian restaurants den shops tho... and one of the more interesting restaurants there, The Stinking Rose!! interesting name... came about becoz many of their dishes there have garlic in it... haha how apt isnt it? longest string of garlics :: hottest sauces in the universe the longest string of garlic apparently got into the Guinness World of Records, well, according to the shop owner tat is... looking at tat string hanging from the ceiling that goes from room to room, it's hard not to believe tho! and those in the right photo are the hottest sauces in the universe, one of them being Dave's Insanity Sauce, which dearest Lester in a moment of insanity decided to buy them back to let his hall ppl try... hahah... it's so hot and potent it can actually be used to wash off grease... -_-''' ching tried it, and hearing her experience made me abit reluctant to try the one les bought... went in search for some Italian food for lunch, and we stumbled onto this really nice sophisticated looking restaurant called Calzone's! they mainly sell pastas, and the food is supadupa GOOOOOODDDD!!!!!!! it's so good it leaves us wanting more... but it's kinda expensive tho... went back to Fisherman's Wharf Pier 39 after tat coz we didnt manage to finish looking at all the quirky shops along the pier... and i so wanted to eat Bubba Gump!!!! it felt like a must-do since it's featured in a movie and it's totally not available in Singapore at all! the child in him and one of the highlights at the pier, giant seals!! went straight for Bubba Gump souvenir shop aft tat before entering the restaurant for a meal... the photo on the left is a menu tat's sold in the shop, with photos from the movie incorporated inside... and that little thing les is holding is a shrimp!!!! isnt it adorable????? i like tat silly shrimpy grin... haha... tat's a table sign tat u can flip to show "Run Forrest Run" or "Stop Forrest Stop"... if u need the waiters or any service, all u haf to do is flip to the "Stop Forrest Stop" and they'll stop by ur table to accede to any of ur requests... and after so if u dun need them anymore, u can flip it back to "Run Forrest Run"... i tot it was a really cool idea... =) and our food! which the four of us shared... the shrimps are superb... it's so fresh it's unbelievable... and they've got all kinds of shrimps... barbequed shrimps, grilled shrimps, coconut shrimps etc etc... and while we were walking down the pier, we saw something tat's like "Just For Laughs"... tat's a guy hiding behind the bush trying to scare any pedestrians tat walked past... haha i've got to give it to him... he's really funny... night view from the Pier |
