12th May 07 - Virginia Beach
Was planning to at least visit a place before work officially start, since orientation is on 14th may, but we only had a few days so we couldnt go nice and far places like florida etc, and settled for something good enough - Virginia Beach!!!
for the ignorant, Virginia Beach is not only a beach, but is the name of a city in the state of Virginia. One of the many good things abt coming USA for so long is general knowledge haha...
anyway we drove up abt 4 hrs (including time taken to holland, time taken to go restrooms, and time taken to pump petrol hee) from our hotel in Richmond to Virginia Beach. I've concluded after so many days, that i really love road trips.
Roads trips are superb.
Think a group of friends snuggled cosily in a hugeass car, with unlimited (almost) supply of snacks and poker cards. Think tons of laughter, tons of chit-chatting, and wow-wowing at the sights you see along the way. There were abt 18 of us by the way, we went in 2 different cars.

Virginia beach is a really nice place, it's by far my favourite place, yes winning new york hands-down. they're 2 really different kind of places. Virginia beach is more of my kind of place, it has this really peaceful feel abt it, amidst all the shoutings and laughter by the teenagers, and most imptly it's next to a beach, tho pathetic, but still one!

me, les, yew lee and lijing were in the backseats of one of the cars coz we dunno how to drive (with the exception of les) and we're really bad at navigating. haha... so while the driver and the navigator (thanx michael and chang! haha) next to him are busy stressing over getting us to virginia beach, we're doing stoopid things in the backseat.
and coz chang brought his guitar along on the roadtrip, we had a mini singing session in the car. it's like a really nice chilling out session on the go. this is what happened when you get kbox-crazy sporeans deprived of kbox.

4 hrs of driving took us straight to the beautiful Virginia Beach. The moment we reached, we were (or at least me) fell in love with the place.
and i'm really impressed by the angmohs. they give no shit to the weather haha.
and ta-da! the beach!!!!! it's actually kinda small, but nice. anyway we'll prob be going Santa Monica Beach aft work in July. =)
me and lijing took off our tops, to make ourselves feel like we're at the beach and so that those ang mohs would stop staring at us because we were totally in the touristy package.
it was some sightseeing ard the area aft the beach. anyway we only stayed at the beach for awhile, coz the wind was really freezing us to the core. all 8 of us gers were like shivering in our bikinis, anyway the bikinis were more for the sake of taking photos. haha...

Virginia Beach was really crowded that day, becoz they had some car race thing going on, and apparently it's some really huge event because the hotel there had banners hung everywhere. we wanted to take a look but the queue was so bloody long.

this thing here cost USD7 per person and abt an hr long wait to get up.
we didnt take much photos of the food, coz we were too busy eating, and the waitresses there totally looked like they'll scream at us if we even do so much as lift our cameras up. so these are shots taken kinda secretly haha...
the rest were eating Wendy's haha. we're the poor-but-want-good-food-in-our-stomach group.
mostly photos, coz it's been almost a month ago since we went and i forgot tons of stuff haha. stoopid internet was down and i've got tons of stuff to blog abt. NYC photos coming up!
and the little snippets abt US of A and their ppl, another day. tml got orientation talk and free Krispy Kremes!!!!

it was kinda crazy, now that i think abt it, coz it was still spring at that time, which means the temp is abt air-con kinda temp, ie abt 20 degrees celsius.
we were not exactly freezing cold, but not exactly in the condition to be wearing bikini too. but it's juz not right to go to the beach all wrapped up. hahah...
the weather is nice lar, not exactly sun-tanning kind, but makes u wanna juz sit on the soft sand with the breeze ruffling ur hair. =)

we were totally amazed by the machine used to charge parking fees at the carpark. theoretically it was only our first few days in US of A, which explained why we seemed to take so many photos of every single thing we see.

basically, the place is filled with little food stalls selling expensive (but really nice smelling) food, beachwear shops like roxy etc, and juz many happy and smiling ppl in bikinis and beachwear.
i saw tons of huge boobies, to say the least. haha. i think those humsup sporean guys are secretly happy. hee.

there was this really nice souvenir shop there, which sells supadupa nice pink sweaters can!!!! and i ended up not buying coz i was tryin to save money. but we're all goin back there in July so yaaays!
our day ended with a bombastic (both on our stomachs and our pockets) smack at this seafood buffet which we drove a few mins down from the beach. it's supadupa expensive with ok-only-lar kind of food. but cravings for seafood were satisfied, and it's juz so contenting to be eating seafood after a day at the beach. =)
