* Friday, June 29, 2007 * 21st May 07 - New York City Day 1 Work hasn't even officially started then, and yet we were already easily tempted by the idea of a trip to another city. to pack your bags for a short trip while on a trip feels so weird and yet so good at the same time. at least, it felt like we were starting to go places, instead of being cooped up at Quality Inn all day. The lifeguards were unable to come along with us becoz of their training schedule, so it was just us, the 4 ride operators. Greyhound was the cheapest way of transport, but a pain in the ass. not to sound discriminating, but the bus was full of hei rens, and it was kinda irritating coz they can get really noisy when they want to. anyway the whole greyhound system is kinda screwed up. 7 hrs bus ride all the way from Richmond, VA to New York City! and a few photos that i managed to take in between my snoozing on the bus. glimpses of the Big Apple by the time we reach Big Apple, it was already near midnight. and stoopid naive us, like typical tourists got kinda cheated of our money on the very first nite there. we were asking directions from the greyhound bus station to our hostel, so the bus officer at greyhound station told us to go to the information counter to ask, which totally makes sense. when we got there, there was this friendly really helpful (or so we tot) man standing there who offered to bring us to the train station nearest to our hostel. of coz we happily follow him lar! thinking how nice new york ppl are, contrary to common perceptions. but when we reach the train station nearest to our hostel, he told us we've to pay him USD10 each for his services. -_-''' Continental hostel! doesnt it totally look like a brothel to you? haha, the red lights were a total turnoff, making the whole hostel look sleazy and scary at the same time. and our main mode of transport in new york city... the SUBWAY, which runs 24/7 the New York dude |
