21st July 07 - San Francisco Day 2

Day 2!!!

in SF, we're staying in this hostel called USA Hostel, which is really not bad... coz they have a lounge where u can juz hang around and use ur laptops, they've got wireless internet connection (which is surprisingly really qt fast), they've got a whole basement filled with karaoke equipment, pool table, tv etc...

and the best thing! they've got free pancakes for breakfast everyday! and the fun part is, u're supposed to make them urselves... they've got the batter and honey syrup and jelly etc!

the guys at work

me and ching usually (or in other words, always... hahaha) juz sit there and wait for them to serve us the pancakes... haha... hey, we did our part too k... we're always the one washing up... -_-'''

haf i ever mentioned i really hate washing dishes?

all refreshed for the day! haha...

we went to St. Peter & Paul Church to take a look... it seemed like we've been goin to a church in every single city, and i'm nvr tired of seeing the same things...

coz the decor in the churches are magnificent... really fantastic... if spore has churches liddat, i bet everyone will want a church wedding... if not for the religion, den for the setting...

architecture marvel

we wanted to go in and take a look but was stopped at the entrance coz apparently there's a 'private function' goin on, a.k.a WEDDING!

but we later found a side door and sneaked in... hee...

inside the church

to all due respect to the about-to-be-married couple, we juz sat at the side aisle (coz they only booked the center aisle for their wedding ceremony) and observe the ceremony. i was soooo excited can!!!! coz u see so many american church weddings on tv, it juz totally psyched me up to be witnessing one in real life... haha...

center and side aisle :: the bride and groom!!!!

i would love to stay and listen to them exchange vows, but we tot it'll be really rude to leave halfway thru their ceremony, and we didnt haf time to stay for the whole ceremony... =(

so we left once the bride and groom walked down the aisle... i want a church wedding toooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

went to Farmers' Market, which is like singapore's pasam malam only abit better... haha... apparently every city has a farmers' market...

some of the buildings we saw on our way there...

triangular-shaped building :: clock tower

once we reached the market, we saw several abstract structures there...

i love the layout of the stalls in the market... it's like a mini flea market!

they mainly sell fruits and vegetables, and there are stalls cooking those bbq-ed food along the roads... too bad we didnt haf a chance to try those, i think we were too full at tat time, prob fr all the pancakes! haha...

besides food, they also have all the intricate little tinklets like earrings, ornaments etc... i bought this hanging flying pig fr there... supa cute!!!!

hand-made origami crane earrings

i love those earrings!!! it's handmade and so jap-style. but they cost USD12 per pair. yes, i heard you... tat's like freaking ex, i noe... but i was actually considering buying it...

besides the outside stalls, they have an indoors flea market, but this one mainly sells only food. they've one whole stall selling cheese, one whole stall selling oysters, one whole stall selling ham etc...

at the indoors flea market

say 'cheese'!!

went on to Fisherman's Wharf Pier 39...

Fisherman's Wharf is this whole stretch along the sea, with pier 1 to i think 40plus... but pier 39 is where all the cafes, shops, and seafood restaurants are...

this! is my fav place in SF!!!! it's bustling with life and near the sea! i totally loveeee it!!!!!

greeted by a humongous crab!

Pier 39!

with ching :: with les

the shops there mainly sell souvenirs... but they've got really nice shops like Hard Rock Cafe, and a musical-box shop, a 'fairyland' which sells all fairies related stuff!!!

Lester the Rockstar :: Elvis Presley
those in her hands are bread!!! :: the guys

and when u refuse to buy the souvenirs in the shops, this is what you do... pose with the souvenirs, take a photo, and forget abt it! haha... by the way, a typical normal small-looking keychain souvenir in USA cost abt USD4.99... argh!

with the 'alcatraz' pig :: oscars award to the 'Best Couple'! wahhaha...

Musical Box Company :: Taffy World

those are saltwater taffys which are actually juz chewy sweets tat taste kinda salty and kinda sweet... but the best thing abt them is they've got really weird flavours like strawberry cheesecake, caramel corn, key lime pie etc... it's nice!!! but cant be kept too long, or it'll turn supa sticky...

walked around looking for food, and came across Bubba Gump!

for the ignorant, Bubba Gump is the restaurant set up by Forrest Gump and his fren Bubba, as shown in the show... for the even more ignorant, yes, Forrest Gump is a movie based on real life story...

and the guy in white shirt in the bottom right photo is supposed to be Forrest Gump... he's not a statue by the way (tat's wat my cousin asked me when he saw the photo! haha... )...

coz the queue at the restaurant is too long, so we didnt eat there in the end... we juz took a photo with Forrest Gump and left... he gave me a chocolate fr his box of chocolates! haha...

settled for this cheap seafood takeaway instead, which is surprisingly goooood!!!!!!

we took the food, sat by the sea and chatted while eating... this is life lor, seriously...

one of the nicest places i've went to in SF, in the aesthetic aspect, is the Palace of Fine Arts...

it's this really grand building that totally look like a castle left behind fr centuries ago, surrounded by this huge pond with ducks and ducklings swimming inside, and a grass patch in front of it where the americans juz laze around to read books and chit chat...

coming here makes me realise how slow the pace of life is, and how relaxed everyone is... in spore, everyone is always rushing here and there, even the pri sch kids...

Palace of Fine Arts

and our all-time fav jumping shots! i noe... we never get tired of it... we're so good at capturing such shots now, one click with one hand does the trick... hahah...

the girls :: the guys

in front of the palace

on our way into the palace, we spotted this entourage of really really really young people, you can call them kids, following this really really really young bride and groom...

i sure hope they're juz role playing, and not for real... coz the bride and groom looks too young to even had their puberty already...

the nicely constructed pillars

and den we saw another wedding!!! and this time, i'm dead sure it's for real!!! haha it's really interesting, coz it looks like a themed wedding... everyone's wearing a costume! and we heard them exchange vows... tat's the best...

the couple exchanging vows

the guests at the themed wedding

if u look carefully at the photos, u can see them in costumes... the one that stands out the most is this guy who came in a black box... haha it's hilarious can!

and we were standing at the side looking at them, and standing out like sore thumbs coz we were in NORMAL clothes... haha...

view of San Francisco from the Palace of Fine Arts

we ended the nite at this gay pub called "Martuni's"...

going to USA is never complete without taking a look at the gay pubs there... no offence to erm homosexuals out there, but the gay pub we went to was really interesting!

there's this male singer at the piano and he sings mainly jazz and it's supa relaxing! he's gay too i think coz he was wearing this supa tight shirt plus an even tighter pants...

and we saw a transvesite there! an ang moh transvesite... hmmmmm... anyway the americans are really open abt their sexuality which really make u respect them alot, coz they're outright abt it, they dun try to hide... and when u stop hiding, it suddenly all feels very normal instead of weird...

Martuni's!

our drinks!

i ordered an expresso martini which i tot tasted really horrible... i think spore's one better... haha...

inside the pub :: les and chang gay-ing around

day 3 coming up!!!
