9th July 07 - Washington DC

it was a trip organised by King's Dominion for all international students. coz Washington is abt 2 hrs drive away, there's no other way to go except follow the chartered bus.

on the way there

Washington, despite being only 2 hrs drive away from Richmond, has really crazy weather there! we survived one whole day of being under the sun at a crazy temperature of 40 degrees celsius. it was soooooooooooooo f***ing hot it killed all of us i think.

shd haf gone there in my bikini. hahhaha...

we saw this van cruising around Washington. u'll nvr see this in Singapore man. if there is, it'll prob hit headlines for days haha...

Washington is basically juz monuments and monuments and monuments and monuments... as much as i love history, it's a totally boring place to be at. i dun understand how some ppl can go there and stay for like 3 days... -_-'''

that aside, we do see nice gardens here and there...

galore of sunflowers (my fav!!!) :: bird sanctuary
in the garden :: the engineers in front of an engineering marvel

and den it was on to monuments AGAIN...

Peter piper :: one of the many museums we passed
the back of my "little miss sunshine" shirt (wahhah i love it!) :: me and ching

amidst all the different museums, we chose only one to visit, becoz we've had our fair share of museums in New York and Richmond. so it was "National Air and Space Museum"! mainly coz it had the wright brothers creations inside, and all the other museums are juz history and art and history and art, which is basically the same as any other museums u can get.

this, however, is different!

it's this kinda place where the gers end up waiting for the guys... haha fair enuff, since they've done enuff waiting everytime we shop.

the aircrafts that greeted us

i figured more photos of aircrafts would prob bore all of u... so more of ppl!

with the wright brothers :: Lester the Sailor
i think tat's a missile :: Uncle Chang!
the Strong One :: one of the rocket models

and some of the interesting things we saw there...

do u see a monkey strapped there? :: the signs of the now-8 planets

den we passed by this machine that takes coloured x-ray-like shots of ppl... i forgot wat the machine is called... but this is wat we managed to capture!

artistic eh? haha... tat'll be (L to R) yew lee, ching, les, me.

we ended up at the souvenir shop which has many really cute models of little aircrafts... and they had the whole entire astronomer suits for sale... haha... we wanted to try on one juz for phototaking... but aiya too lei chei...
we bought one of the space food tho! an ice-cream! which is solid and dry when u open up, but the moment u place them in ur mouth, they totally melt. and it tastes different from normal ice cream too...

with the space food

and one of our fav kind of shots...

it was terrible walking out from the airconditioned comfy museum into the blazing hot sun at 40 degrees celsius (yes! i muz keep stressing tat!)... and we walked abt 30 mins under tat sun juz to get to the white house, which we cant even enter to 100 metres of its vicinity.

but oh well, if u haven seen the white house, u haven been to Washington, so it's like a must-do kind of thing there...

the white house, where the oh-so-mighty US of A president lives

we went on to visit all the memorials, which is soooo much better den monuments!

i love to see memorials, coz it's amazing how some sculptures and some inscripted words can juz stir up certain emotions in u... we went to Vietnam War Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and WWII memorial. but still nothing beats the 911 memorial i saw in New York, that could have really made me cry...

the book of names from Vietnam War

it was a damn thick book, initially we tot they were names of ALL the soldiers involved in the war which is why it's so thick... but we found out ltr tat they were actually the names of soldiers who DIED in the war... yes, it's that many... to every single name, there's the date of birth, date of death, and their rank in the war... it's so heartbreaking to flip thru the whole book and see so many names flash by u... =(

with a sculpture of a nurse treating a wounded soldier :: chang and les at the Lincoln memorial

the Washington Monument

this is a rather random photo, but look at the row of ducks in the water!!!! hahah soooooo cute!
and they'll actually respond when u quack at them!

and the World War II memorial...

they had sculptures built all around a pond, and on every sculpture is the name of every state in USA. so we had to take a photo with Virginia!!!

went back at nite, to go sishay, which in other words is LIKE smoking, but not exactly smoking, coz they had different flavours like strawberry apple etc etc which u can choose fr... i totally hate the smell of smoke, so it was juz a few breaths and tat's all i could take. more for the experience tho... =)

us, who survived the weather of 40 degrees celsius (haha!)
