* Tuesday, August 7, 2007 * we're back in lovely lovely sunny singapore after 3 full months. needless to say, i'm supa jetlagged now. the exhaustion is all setting in, in full blast. 3 months isnt exactly a very long time to be away from home, but it still takes a little bit of adaptation to do now that we're no longer in USA. the roads are different now, the driver is now on the right hand side of the car, and no longer on the left. when we first reached USA, i think it took us abt 1 month to be able to learn how to look on the right side of the roads before crossing (we're always getting it wrong!). no more getting into the shocked state when you hear loud continuous banging noises, coz tis time it's more likely to be punctured car tyres rather than gunshots (more abt this later). What i miss most, surprisingly, are the Americans. yes, the people. which kinda shocked me too, coz while i was in US of A, they irritate and frustrate me every single day, with their obnoxious and arrogant and "HAA! i'm so way above you" attitude. and yet now, i miss the sounds of their American accent, their 'blah' attitude, and the way they juz let every single emotion they're feeling show on their faces. it has only been a day since i'm back, and yet sometimes when i allow myself to do so, reminiscence set in, and you realise how much you've left behind in US of A. the carefreeness, the freedom, the American friends whom you've somehow or another forge bonds with. the 3 months have been a period of no worries. the biggest worry we have is whether our supervisor will approve our days off requests, and that is all. seriously i think when i board the plane to USA on 9th may 07, i subconsciously left everything Singaporean behind. it was like starting new and afresh with life. now that we're back, reality hits, the same old routine life sets in, and the past 3 months juz feel totally surreal to me. I gave up my IA for this trip, which is probably one of the most unpractical most irrational decisions i've made. but i followed my heart and i'm glad i did, coz everything i learnt on this trip far exceeded what i would have learnt in IA. how can you even compare a full 3 months of life experiences to experiencing internship, which by the way consist of doing mere trivial work around the company. i shd haf gone on this work and travel program last year, but being late is better den never, isnt it? =) all those aside, i'm glad to be back. becoz when you're overseas for a long-enough period of time to understand their culture and their way of living, you realise Singapore is still the best. photos of our touring days up soon! once i've gotten down to settling all my modules and meeting up wif frens. =))) |
