* Sunday, August 17, 2008 * 9th August 2008 was Singapore's 43rd Birthday!!!! oh btw, i'm really proud to be Singaporean. always have been =) and also the day when me, cai lin, siyong, yuansheng and zhilin went to Ubin for cycling! I haven't been there for eons. The best memory i have of Ubin cycling was when i went with my Guides and Scouts. that was supadupawupa fun lar!!!!! anyway, we ate lunch at Changi V before going in. the famous Nasi Lemak there, wasnt as great as i tot it'll be. or maybe coz everyone's raving too much abt it. it doesnt really match up to my expectations. -_-'' and so we were soon on the boat on the way there... the grey skies made me kinda gleeful tho. i love cycling in the rain. and getting wet is no issue at all... =)) the ride there was a good 15mins so we started to camwhore. I have no idea what he's doing with his hands. -_-''' my hair was in disarray lar... terrible. anyway those are my new shades!!! which i finally got around to buying after my previous one got smashed while playin beach volleyball... oh! and i actually met my colleague and his gf on the boat to ubin. how small is the world manz. and finally, we reached! looks exactly like how i saw it the last time i went. tho i think there was a few more coffeeshops that sprung up near the jetty area. we rented a mountain bike each - i think it was $8 for the entire day. we each had an ubin map, and the island was smaller than i last rem... or maybe coz they barricade off some of the forest trails... but anyways, we started to make our way over to Chek Jawa which is the infamous mangrove on Ubin. Some of the sights we saw while cycling there... the bottom 2 photos were actually taken fr my fren... i have no idea what animal that is... but it sure as hell look kinda like a dog haha... and then we saw this well... which siyong insisted someone must have jumped in long long time ago... -_-''' it does look pretty scary lar... looked kinda like the well in "The Ring". Then we reached Chek Jawa, where we had to park our bikes outside before we could walk in. there's this pavement called "Mangrove Boardwalk" where you can see certain sights on the way in. see those pincers?! i think those are called mud lobsters or something liddat... cant really rem... i love those photos above lar... something u'll never see in singapore... or maybe u will lar, prob deep deep inside Bukit Timah Hill or MacRitchie haha... and somehow the photos on the left reminded me of my camping experience in Selangor when i went abt 2 years ago... superb lar that trip... i want more of those!!!!! =(( and i brought my butterfly out to the wilds! hahaha... seeeeee, despite all the tanning (which the person insist will make my butterfly fade away), it is still shiny and bright! oh for those who dunno yet, the butterfly is a real tattoo OKAAAAYYY! i rem when i first got it, ppl came up to me and said "eh, fake onez arhz?" and proceeded to rub really hard on my skin thinking they can rub the butterfly away... -_-''' anyway, we finally reached the end of the boardwalk... tho it reminded me alittle of the jetty at ECP haha... and more photos of Chek Jawa... they're really really tiny by the way... if not for the colour contrast of their pincers, you wouldnt even be able to spot them... and this is the tree, that the moment zhilin saw it, he said he's going to go home and draw it haha... we cycled back to the jetty area, coz at that time it was starting to rain really heavily... and our thighs were damn suan lar... there were so many up-slopes... but everytime there's an up slope, there'll be a downslope. and seriously, zooming down those slopes at high speed on a bike is damn damnnn freaking SHIOK! we reached back the jetty just in time before it started to really pour... i had like splatters of mud and water on my legs, my clothes and my bag... and my hair and face feels absolutely eeekyyy, but i totally love it lar... when you're cooped up in office mon to fri fr morn till afternoon, outdoors is very much welcomed. i noe it's not very obvious fr the photos, but it IS pouring. haha... we ordered hot teh from this small quirky coffeeshop... wah lao damn shiok lar, the hot drink... coz i was practically freezing at that time already. my whole tshirt and shorts was wet... den me and cai lin kept complaining that we were starving, so we went to another coffeeshop to eat zi char... haha... the zi char there is damnnnn cheap can!!!! and it tastes not bad too... i think we ordered 2 huge plates of hongkong fried noodles and fried rice, and it cost only $2 per person... after eating, i insisted on more cycling haha... coz we haven covered the last bicycle trail yet... and i havent had enough cycling for the day lar... so we got onto the bikes and went on another trail... we ended up at the beach area, which is not exactly the cleanest you can find, but somehow when i saw it, i kept thinking, how serene... it's really nice and quiet. and the first thought that came to me and cai was, we shd have a picnic there... haha... we are both damn tanned lar... which is good because i dun like being fair... haha... ANYWAY! i got that MOOKS top for half-price!!!! damn nice lar... it's supposed to be a guys top but it's so nice i bought the smallest guy size possible... because cai lin refused to let me photograph her feet. haha... den stoopid yuansheng cajole cai to climb onto this log and walked to the edge so that we can take a photo of her... after like 30mins or so of hanging around the beach, and zhilin insisting that there'll be sand flies there, we made our way back to the jetty... amidst all the upslopes that we met on the way... i think my thighs decreased by an inch after the entire day of cycling... haha... but i still prefer those forest trails!!!!!!! but alot of them were barred entry, and i couldnt really rem which forest trail i took the last time, so in the end we stuck to the normal trails... we were all wet and sticky and sweaty and muddy and smelly, and we boarded SMRT still. hahah... this cycling trip made me miss trekking and camping and kayaking and tubing and watsnot... basically all the outdoor stuff i used to do before i started work! if i had a choice and if i was freaking rich, i would haf gone to be an OBS instructor. and i'm serious. i wanted to do that during 3 months hols the other time, but the website said u had to commit 6months, which obviously i couldnt so i didnt go for their training prog in the end. like i said, if i was freaking rich, then i can definitely quit my job and do that. |
